In a recent announcement, State Representative Dave Deyoe, a Republican from Nevada, revealed that he will not be seeking another term in the Iowa House of Representatives. Deyoe, who has served District 51 since 2007, expressed his gratitude for the honor of representing his constituents and the people of Iowa. His decision to retire at the end of his current term marks the end of an era for the rural areas of Marshall County that he has faithfully served.

Throughout his tenure, Deyoe has been a dedicated public servant, leaving a lasting impact on the state’s legislative landscape. He served on various committees, including Commerce, Environmental Protection, Local Government, and Ways and Means. Currently, he holds the position of Chairman of the Iowa House Labor and Workforce Committee.

Iowa House Speaker Pat Grassley acknowledged Deyoe’s contributions, stating, “Dave Deyoe will be missed in the House. He has been dedicated through his time here and always put his constituents’ needs first. He is a valuable member in our chamber, and I wish him the best with his retirement from the Iowa Legislature.”

Deyoe‘s retirement will leave a void in District 51, encompassing portions of Story and Marshall counties, including the communities of Nevada, Huxley, and State Center. After winning a competitive race in 2006, Deyoe consistently secured victories in subsequent elections, either running unopposed or winning by significant margins.

The announcement of Deyoe‘s retirement sets the stage for an open seat in District 51, sparking anticipation for the upcoming election. The district’s voters will play a pivotal role in determining their new representative, and the race is expected to draw attention as candidates emerge to fill the void left by Deyoe.

As Deyoe reflects on his time in the Statehouse, he expressed satisfaction with the work accomplished during his tenure. With his extensive experience on committees such as Agriculture, Appropriations, Economic Growth, and Environmental Protection, Deyoe leaves behind a legacy of service and commitment to the betterment of Iowa.
